In an effort to be environmentally responsible, we have aligned our manufacturing and supply chain management processes to minimize the amount of waste and redundancy, while ensuring stable run rates with consistent product availability that meet the demands of our customers. Continuous process improvement initiatives have resulted in elimination of VOCs in our painting and coating operations and efficient sourcing and logistics have reduced our fuel consumption. Preventative maintenance programs contribute to reduced and efficient energy conservation.
Our investments in assets that promote paperless communication and business transactions via multi-functional equipment have significantly reduced paper and energy consumption. In similar fashion, we have reduced the amount of printed marketing materials through on-line availability.
Manufactured product is transported in reusable shipping containers and shipping pallets, constructed of certified sustainable wood products, are also reused.
Our products are manufactured of 25% pre-consumer scrap content and post-consumer content ranges from 25% to 60% depending on the product line.
Recycling efforts at Buildex include a comprehensive recycling program at all of our facilities to include paper, mail, promotional flyers, magazines, aluminum cans, glass and plastic bottles. We recycled twelve tons of corrugated cardboard in 2009 and our goal is to reduce the amount of landfill waste materials by 10% in 2010.
A partnership with a local high school ensures that our ink cartridges are routinely recycled and we have launched a new program to collect and recycle rechargeable batteries. We have implemented zero landfill recycling for end of life assets and will continue to seek new opportunities to capture, measure and improve our impact on the environment. |
